A taste of Cuba has come to Round Rock – with classic Cuban dishes, Latin music and a tropical atmosphere – in the form of Q’bolá Cuban Restaurant and Bar.
Q’bolá – an informal greeting that translates to “what’s happening” – opened Sept. 28 at 351 W. Palm Valley Blvd., at the intersection of Palm Valley and northbound I-35 frontage.
Its business partners arrived after experience with another Cuban restaurant just north of San Antonio, attracted by Round Rock’s geographic location and recent influx of Cuban people.
Patrons to Q’bolá will find a menu full of authentic Cuban fare, as well as Filet Mignon Angus beef steaks, seafood and sides. Starters such as Cassava fries, fried green plantains and golden malanga root fritters offer tastes to dazzle the tongue.
Discover Ropa Vieja – traditional Cuban shredded beef braised with peppers, onions and tomato sauce – and Vaca Frita – crispy shredded beef with onions – as well as a traditional Cuban sandwich and Creole shrimp. All main dishes are served with white rice or traditional Cuban congri – black beans and rice.
Finish off with desserts such as Cuban flan and brioche bread with rum syrup and honey.
Q’bolá is open seven days a week, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and on Friday and Saturday evenings it transforms into the bar in its name – staying open until 2 a.m., serving drinks only after 10 p.m.
The location will have live music each Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening as well.
