Jet’s fires up pizza ovens in Round Rock

If deep dish pizza with crispy edges and plentiful cheese sounds like your type of pie, you might already be familiar with Jet’s Pizza.

Jet’s Round Rock location opened its doors on Sept. 23 at 1551 E. Old Settlers Blvd., joining hundreds of locations across 25 states. There are 27 franchise spots in Texas, including nine in the Austin area.

Brothers Eugene and John Jetts founded Jetts Party Shoppe in 1978 in Detroit. In 1985, they traded in a T for an apostrophe and morphed the company into Jet’s Pizza. The pizzeria became a franchise in 1998.

Jet’s menu includes round, thin, New York Style, cauliflower crust and gluten-free pizza, in addition to its signature Detroit Style. Add in calzones, breadsticks, wings and boneless chicken, salads and desserts and it sounds like a party.

You can try the round, the thin or even the cauliflower, but to get the true Jet’s experience, dial up the Detroit Style. With 47 years of practice, they’ve gotten down the process of kneading dough from a proprietary blend of flour, pressing it into automotive-type steel pans and baking it until cheese, spread from edge to edge, is caramelized and edges are made crispy.

GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO SHOP

Want better roads? How about better parks? All you have to do is Shop the Rock. Seriously, head over to the outlets and buy those shoes, or venture downtown for lunch. It doesn’t matter if you are shopping, dining or getting a haircut your dollars are helping to pay it forward and build our community. What makes this possible? Sales tax. Though it may be the least sexy tax, it is the hardest working one. So next time you see a shirt you love, buy it. Your city will thank you.
