New 3D design studio offers boundless opportunities for creative minds

Tucked into a modest shopping center on Gattis School Road, a new 3D printing studio offers customers the opportunity to create anything their minds can imagine.

RR3D FunFactory sells a variety of 3D printed items, but also offers to make custom ordered items. The possibilities are endless, as exhibited by the towering model of Sauron, the villain of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings,” which greets people as they enter the store. RR3D owner Soner Mecuk created the model, looming menacingly about 7 feet tall.

Mecuk’s skill with a 3D printer is key to RR3D, as he and his wife opened the business after he previously worked for manufacturing and 3D design companies. He works with a desk-sized printer to create items he then paints and, as in the case of Sauron, will meld pieces into larger creations if necessary.

Together with marketing partner Emine Salmanogul, the pair opened the business in February after signing a lease only three months earlier. Still ironing out the direction of the business, they plan to host workshops where students ages 7 and up can design their own items before painting and putting on finishing touches. Virtual reality game rooms are available as well.

RR3D FunFactory is open seven days a week at 1100 Gattis School Road, Suite 240, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Find them on Instagram and Facebook

GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO SHOP

Want better roads? How about better parks? All you have to do is Shop the Rock. Seriously, head over to the outlets and buy those shoes, or venture downtown for lunch. It doesn’t matter if you are shopping, dining or getting a haircut your dollars are helping to pay it forward and build our community. What makes this possible? Sales tax. Though it may be the least sexy tax, it is the hardest working one. So next time you see a shirt you love, buy it. Your city will thank you.
