Fizz Fuzion, a specialty soda shop, opened the doors to their drive-thru location at 2000 Sam Bass Road, Suite 101 on May 30.
A passion project between husband and wife, the self-described “dirty soda lab” originated as a beverage truck in downtown Round Rock before transitioning to its new location.
A dirty soda refers to when a soda or base is mixed with add-ons like flavored syrups, cream, fruit purees and more to create a flavored drink.
Co-owner Bill Rhoades is a Texas native but met his wife Rosie through a mutual friend located in Salt Lake, resulting in Bill spending a lot of time flying between Texas and Utah and coming up with the idea for the shop.
“Soda shops are super popular in Utah, so I just figured we needed these here in Texas,” Rhoades said.
But while dirty soda may have originated in Utah, Fizz Fuzion is uniquely Texan.
“We’re a Texas original,” Rhoades said. “There are other franchises that pop up here and there, but we’re homegrown here. All of our drinks have a Texas-based theme to them.”
Fizz Fuzion’s menu offers unique drinks like the “Come and Take it,” a Dr Pepper with vanilla, cherry and a cherry soft top, the “Hi-Step Cooler,” a sprite with watermelon, coconut and strawberry puree and the “South Padre Massacre,” a lemonade with blue raspberry, coconut, strawberry puree and gummy sharks.
Rhoades favorite flavor mix is the “Round Rock,” a root beer mixed with butterscotch, vanilla and cream.
“I love the Round Rock, … it kind of tastes like a Butterbeer,” Rhoades said.
Drinks are not the only thing Fizz Fuzion is serving up; the business also seeks to be a place where locals can find community.
“We’re also not just a simple drive thru. We try to be a very family-oriented setup here, you know. We’ve got board games, trivia nights,” Rhoades said.
