The Gelato Lab devising vibrant, pleasing creations daily

Menu centered on flavor, fresh ingredients

  • Flavorful, in-season ingredients that pop.
  • Smooth gelato and waffle cones made fresh daily.
  • A well thought out, varied menu with offerings for children and adults.
  • A knowledgeable owner trained in culinary arts.
  • Dairy-free, vegan-friendly and gluten-free options.

The Gelato Lab has all the right ingredients going for it.

Sisters Andrea and Angie Guzman opened the dessert hang-out in June at 1500 S. A.W. Grimes Blvd. With road construction ongoing at that intersection, it’s remained a bit of a hidden gem ever since, but with a delightful menu and bright, welcoming atmosphere, that likely will change.

Andrea studied at a culinary school in Australia before her husband landed an Austin-area job during the pandemic. They opened with 24 summertime offerings, with flavors such as Maracumango, a blend of mango and passion fruit utilizing ingredients shipped from Colombia. The tart, sweet and aromatic flavors of the fruit combine with the gelato to make your taste buds pop.

The Triple Berry Cheesecake comes with a specially made blend of raspberries, strawberries and blackberries. The kids will get a kick out of the “Cookie Monster” – blue and filled with Oreos – and The Gelato Lab concocted a tres leches gelato that’s smooth and creamy.

If gelato – made with whole milk and with less fat than ice cream – isn’t your thing, they offer shakes, sorbets and coffee. And like the waffle cones, the Gelato Lab Belgian waffles, topped with gelato, are made fresh to order.

They will assist with fundraising efforts for schools, sports clubs or churches, and can travel to requested sites.

The Gelato Lab is open from 2-8 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, from 2-9 p.m. Thursday, from noon to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from noon to 9 p.m. each Sunday. Call 512-975-9670 or find them online at TheGelatoLabTx.com and on Facebook, Instagram, Threads and TikTok.

GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO SHOP

Want better roads? How about better parks? All you have to do is Shop the Rock. Seriously, head over to the outlets and buy those shoes, or venture downtown for lunch. It doesn’t matter if you are shopping, dining or getting a haircut your dollars are helping to pay it forward and build our community. What makes this possible? Sales tax. Though it may be the least sexy tax, it is the hardest working one. So next time you see a shirt you love, buy it. Your city will thank you.
