Holiday Shopping Faves: Kids. The real Toy Story

kids STR guide banner

We’ve all got our favorite places to Shop the Rock. So to help everyone get in the holiday shopping spirit, we thought it would be fun to share some of our fave stores in Round Rock. And since we love to categorize — and there are so many people to shop for and so many different kinds of stuff to buy — we’re going to break this down to Moms, Dads, Kids, Pets and Outdoor Gear.

Here are our staff picks for favorite places to shop for kids in Round Rock. Remember: Those gifts you buy for the kids help pay for the fields they play on at Old Settlers Park!

Courtney — With eight nieces to shop for, we have to get creative with gifts. We love getting them great children’s books from Barnes & Noble. My current favorites are The Book with No Pictures and Charlie the Ranch Dog.

Brian — Kaleidoscope Toys has everything my 7-year-old loves; Legos, science kits and things that shoot.  But, if you are looking for that unique gift for the Lego-loving kid in your life,  you might want to check out Creative Brick Builders too.  They sell individual mini-figures and cool accessories you’d otherwise have to buy in gigantic expensive sets.  And, to quell the fuss on an errand-filled day?  I insert a trip to 3 Star Candy Shop on Main Street to set the world right again.

Austin — Seven words. Get to the Disney Store Outlet now! From princesses to monsters to Muppets and Mickey, Disney Outlet brings the magic! Please, just please, don’t make me listen to another rendition of “Let it Go,” from the movie Frozen. I’m begging you!

Scot — A favorite for my nephews are Xbox gift cards from GameStop.  Then they can download a game of their choice and ignore me the rest of the time!

Will — With two teenage boys, this isn’t that tough. So electronics and video games are at the top of the list. For the 13-year-old, it’s a gift card for Game Stop and another deck of cards from HEB. The kid is turning into another David Blaine. I’ll hit up Best Buy for my 16-year-old — who is forever losing/destroying his ear buds — and buy him a half dozen. I’m. Not. Kidding. Six (6) would probably last him a year. And since I was already there, um, I might have to pick up a new tablet for myself. Ahem.

Kristin — My 6-year-old niece gets to visit Colorado every year, so I love to shop at REI to pick up new hiking boots and fun camping tools for her to use for her summer vacation.

Easy win? The dollar spot at Target for goodies to stuff stockings with.

GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO SHOP

Want better roads? How about better parks? All you have to do is Shop the Rock. Seriously, head over to the outlets and buy those shoes, or venture downtown for lunch. It doesn’t matter if you are shopping, dining or getting a haircut your dollars are helping to pay it forward and build our community. What makes this possible? Sales tax. Though it may be the least sexy tax, it is the hardest working one. So next time you see a shirt you love, buy it. Your city will thank you.
