We’ve all got our favorite places to Shop the Rock. So to help everyone get in the holiday shopping spirit, we thought it would be fun to share some of our fave stores in Round Rock. And since we love to categorize — and there are so many people to shop for and so many different kinds of stuff to buy — we’re going to break this down to Moms, Dads, Kids, Pets and Outdoor Gear.
Here are our staff picks for favorite places for Outdoor Gear in Round Rock. Remember: All that stuff you buy to enjoy the great outdoors helps pay for our amazing parks!

Here’s REI in four words for me: So. Much. Cool. Gear. Not that I ever see myself needing a Goal Zero Sherpa 50 Charger and Lantern Bundle, but it would be so amazing to have one. And there’s such a great vibe in the place, laid back but with all that stuff to get “un”laid back with. Um, not sure that makes sense. So let me put it this way: It takes super human strength (and a glance at my checking account) to not walk out with half the items in the store.

This is a tough one for me! It really comes down to what I’m needing (read: don’t really “need” but I’ve GOT to have it!). Academy has always served me well for the basics; the last minute things I need right before I go hunting, fishing or shooting.
Bass Pro Shops has been a wonderful addition to my gear addiction bringing me even more stuff I didn’t know I needed … but now I do!
When I need that one hard-to-find thing for any shooting sports, I know I can always go to Austin Gun Liquidators; they have good specialty items and great advice.

I love visiting Bass Pro Shops just for the experience! I like to window shop in the boat section while my husband buys yet another fishing reel.

My husband is really into fly fishing, I’ve picked up the hobby too — we get our gear at Living Waters Fly Shop in Downtown. Living waters has all water fishing covered so you can gear up if you are traveling or fishing Brushy Creek.
No outdoor experience is complete without an amazing picnic. I get my picnic goodies at Sprouts, they have a great selection of fancy cheeses, spreads, breads and beer selection.

I second the love for REI. To me, they’ve got the best of both worlds – great gear and great style. Yes, you can find all the must-haves (skis, goggles, packs, bags, poles, bindings and more!) for your next trip to the slopes, but you can also do it with style. This is important, because while it might be slightly embarrassing to hang out on the bunny slopes all weekend, if you’ve got super fly threads, maybe, just maybe nobody will notice. So get to REI as fast as humanly possible and treat yourself to that super insulated North Face jacket that matches perfectly with the rest of your ski gear. It might just help you hold on to your man card for at least a few more days.
Second on my list? Academy. The right stuff, the right price… what more can I say?!
